KM Rehab Superstar

Roxene H. came to Kirkwood Manor from the hospital, where she had been admitted for a reverse total shoulder replacement caused by a severe fall. This accident greatly affected her personally; and she went from being independent to requiring a significant level of assistance with her normal daily living activities, such as standing, walking, doing activities around her home, and being out in the community.

When Roxene arrived at Kirkwood Manor, she was not able to put any weight through her right shoulder. Also, her balance and muscle strength were severely impaired from her shoulder surgery; As a result, she was not able to walk without a considerable amount of assistance.

Roxene’s therapy plan to success required muscle strengthening, and progressive range of motion of her right shoulder; she required balance training, gait training, and muscle endurance training to get her back to normal. She worked diligently with Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy on a daily basis to increase her overall muscle strength, dynamic balance, muscle endurance, and independence. She was always motivated and ready to come to rehab to improve her capabilities, with her mind on her goal of being able to go home to her independent lifestyle.

Roxene has made significant gains towards all of her therapy goals and is now walking with a rolling walker with supervision; she continues to work on gaining full function of her right arm. She worked very diligently with the Kirkwood Manor therapy team; and for that the therapy team feels blessed. We know Roxene is thankful that she will be able to soon return home.

We are proud to announce, Roxene H. as our KM Rehab Superstar for the month for April 2019! Her hard work and determination are inspiring to all of us!
